Sonoma County has been a magnet for artists and art connoisseurs for many decades, and continues to attract sophisticated artists and art collectors, along with casual art lovers. Combined with the sheer natural beauty, and general creative ambience, the area readily entices visitors, as well as long-time residents, to explore the many and varied fine art offerings. With the addition of great food, drink, and outdoor activities, it’s easy to spend a day, a week, or a lifetime traversing through the vineyards, forests, and rolling hills, along the scenic coast, and through the welcoming towns of Sonoma County.

The Museum celebrates the 70th Anniversary of Peanuts with a full season of online events. Charles M. Schulz published the first Peanuts comic strip on October 2, 1950. Since then, Peanuts has appeared in 2,600 newspapers, translated into 25 languages, and published in 75 countries worldwide.

35: Thirty-Five Artists for Thirty-Five Years
Curated by Jeff Nathanson, on the occasion of the Museum’s thirty-fifth anniversary, the exhibition presents a sampling of artworks from the Museums art collection. Over the years, the MSC collection has grown to include artworks ranging from works on paper, to photographs, paintings, sculpture, ceramics and crafts, spanning over a century of art-making, from the 19th to the 21st Century. With this in mind, the artworks selected for 35: Thirty-Five Artists for Thirty-Five Years explore a broad range of media and styles. Of particular interest are themes that are recurring in MSC’s collecting practices, such as landscape and the environment, social commentary, mixed media experimentation, and abstraction.

2020 Artistry in Wood
For over thirty years, the Museum of Sonoma County and the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association (SCWA) have collaborated to present an annual, juried showcase of fine regional woodwork. During these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Museum continues the legacy of this long-running exhibition by presenting Artistry in Wood in slightly different form. This year’s exhibition combines new and previously completed works in a unique survey of fine woodwork from our region.

Window Gallery & Art Downtown
Enjoy works from artists featured in Open & Out, funded by Creative Sonoma and the City of Santa Rosa’s Art in Public Places Committee which installed over 20 pieces in Downtown Santa Rosa during the summer of 2020, including those from artists featured in the window gallery. Many installations are still visible along 4th Street and around Old Courthouse Square.

The exhibition will be open to the public as soon as allowed. and features prints and photographs by world renowned artist Ed Ruscha. Rarely seen black and white photographs from Ruscha’s frequent trips from L.A. to Oklahoma in the 1960s reveal inspirations for his iconic prints and paintings, including images of gas stations, diners and the streets of rural towns. Also featured are color lithographs from his well-known “word paintings” series that mix visual formality with playful language.
