Art in Sonoma County: Current Gallery and Museum Exhibitions in June 2020

Sonoma County has been a magnet for artists and art connoisseurs for many decades, and continues to attract sophisticated artists and art collectors, along with casual art lovers. Combined with the sheer natural beauty, and general creative ambience, the area readily entices visitors, as well as long-time residents, to explore the many and varied fine art offerings. With the addition of great food, drink, and outdoor activities, it’s easy to spend a day, a week, or a lifetime traversing through the vineyards, forests, and rolling hills, along the scenic coast, and through the welcoming towns of Sonoma County.

The following is a partial list of local art exhibitions. Many eateries, wineries, and civic buildings also present changing art shows in their spaces.

*** Designates an Opening Reception.

It’s absolutely incredible how much there is to see and do by just going online, instead out the door. It’s not the same as experiencing art and people in person, but amazing creative innovation still abounds, making art and creativity even more essential.

The National Arts Drive
Saturday, June 6, 2020, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Postponed. As you most likely already know, many cities across the United States are experiencing mass protests for the Black Lives Matter movement. This is a conversation that is long overdue for the country and the world-at-large. In support of those collective voices protesting, we have made the decision to yield The National Arts Drive and postpone the date to Saturday, June 20, 2020.
On June 6 artists in select cities across the U.S, Canada and Mexico are encouraged to display, perform and showcase their creativity from driveways, balconies, windows, stoops, front lawns, or participating local small businesses (where applicable and safe) during a three-hour period. The National Arts Drive map will be available to the public and artists on “Drive Day”, Saturday, June 6, so check the website then for participation in Sonoma County.

Art
Through July 19, Landscape: Awe to Activism
From 19th century California artists inspired by nature, to contemporary artists who have broken from traditional perspectives and embraced new technologies to address climate change and other important issues, the artist’s relationship to landscape has evolved. Landscape: Awe to Activism explores this relationship through diverse artworks including painting, photography, and video. Curated by Jeff Nathanson.

History
Through September 13, From Suffrage to #MeToo
2020 is the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the constitutional right to vote. While different in goal and origin, the recent #MeToo movement and women’s marches also represent pivotal change and the power of the collective voice to challenge the status quo. From Suffrage to #MeToo: Groundbreaking Women in Sonoma County, explores the changing expectations, challenges, and obstacles to inclusion that women have faced and the remarkable people who have broken through the barriers.
